We had an overnight stay this hotel last week. The room was very clean and comfortable.staff was top notch. I thought the breakfast was much better than the usual express hotels.. will go back there.. They get a thumb up from me....
Hotel breakfast was ok. Live entertainment was provided by the breakfast attendant holding forth at the next table over a lengthy conversation on the various types of road kills recently encountered in the central Pennsylvania area.
Getting to the hotel is a little odd and the parking is cramped because they share the lot with another hotel. But, they are very nice, have a great breakfast and the rooms are clean. Everything you would expect from a holiday inn Express!
Complimentary breakfast is legit. More than just coffee and donuts.
I should preface this by saying I have stayed in dozens of IHG properties nationwide for hundreds of nights. I have been to this establishment before a few times and it's been fine. Taking all of that in to consideration:
I slept on the one bed that appeared to have been left clean. I woke up to see a brown insect climbing on the pillow next to me. I'm not an entamologist but open source research reveals the insect had the same size/color and general overall appeared of a bed bug. At this point I figured I'd remove all the sheets from the bed and put everything on the floor so they'd be forced to clean it all. In doing so I noticed that one of the pillows had dried blood on it soaked through the pillowcase on to the pillow itself. What was weird was the blood spot was facing the bed. As my bed was the clean one what this suggested to me was the housekeeping staff saw said bloody pillow and rather than take it out of service decided to just put it below another pillow and with the blood spot down.
Had an issue with billing and staff of Carolyn and crew were great. Very professional and thoughtful!
That evening I returned to find my room key would not register in 328. I went back to the front desk and was advised that maintenance went up and noticed a serious water leak and as such the room was closed and our stuff was moved to a room on the second floor. That whole explanation was odd because I didn't see any evidence of a water leak - one wonders if they were fumigating the room for bed bugs but didn't want to say anything about that.
I brought the pillow and the putative bedbug in a cup down to the front desk and relayed my concerns. They advised the room would be cleaned by that evening and were apologetic.
What in the world is going on here? Checked in Friday night got a room (328) with two beds. When we walked in we immediately thought we had been given someone else's room. The bathroom was dirty, both trash cans full, all the towels dirty, the ice bucket was full of water and the room was in disarray. I reported my observations to the front desk guy who was apologetic. We couldn't move because it was sold out so he said they'd send up clean towels at least. Didn't happen.
